Savings Guide

Give your AI a price check before it generates

A chat bubble connects to video, image and Brain cards beside a watchful Penny Owl copper coin.

A useful habit: check before spending

When you ask an AI assistant to generate something, it may use the provider it already knows. That provider may be convenient, but it is worth checking whether another seller offers the same model and settings for less. Penny Owl gives the assistant a readable place to start.

The copper Copy me & Paste me in your AI button copies an instruction that points to our public text guide. Paste it into an assistant with web access. If the app supports saved instructions, keep it there so future requests can use the same price-check habit. Saving instructions depends on the app; a pasted prompt alone does not guarantee permanent memory.

What the guide contains

The guide at https://pennyowl.org/ai-savings.txt contains the displayed models, comparable current seller quotes, settings, source links, check dates and documented sale details. It uses plain text and needs no Penny Owl login or API key. Your assistant can read it without clicking through every comparison page.

The server's daily update saves a new guide with the price catalog after connected checks. Full combined rankings and manual-only pricing pages still need separate research. The guide excludes expired, failed and stale offers from current price choices. Reading the guide does not run a generation or charge you.

Ask for these four things

Ask the assistant to show the exact model and settings, the chosen seller, the estimated cost for your whole job, and the successful price-check date. It should match resolution, quality, duration, reference inputs and audio. Mini or Turbo is not a silent substitute for the full model.

For Brain requests, compare each provider's combined input and output bill. For images, count outputs at the exact supported size. For video, calculate supported clip lengths and any reference-input charges. The lowest headline rate is not enough if the requested endpoint or settings differ.

Your credentials and spending rules still matter

Penny Owl is the comparison guide, not a shared account or payment service. To generate through a chosen seller, you need access to that seller and its configured API credentials. Keep those credentials in your own trusted app or local secret store, not in a public prompt. The copied instruction supplies no API keys and authorizes no purchases.

An assistant without browsing or provider tools can still help you compare a fresh copy, but it cannot promise to fetch updates or submit jobs. If the guide is unreachable or the matching quote is missing, it should tell you. Guessing a price is not a savings strategy.

Penny Owl's purpose is simple: help creators, developers and curious people find the right AI model at a fair price. Check the model, check the seller, and keep control of your spending.
